Mission / Purpose

Frederick County Genealogical Society, Inc.'s mission is:

 

  • To encourage participation from family and social historians
  • To help promote their appreciation and knowledge of genealogical and historical research
  • To offer and encourage continual education for family history and it compilation of information
  • To stimulate proper research methods, and promote high standards of accuracy and documentation 
  • To preserve and disseminate genealogical information
  • FRECOGS has been in existence since the mid-1970s and  incorporated as a non-profit Maryland corporation in December 1999
  • Meetings are announced on the Frederick News Post Community News about 1 week before the meeting date
 
​FRECOGS OBJECTIVES:
  • To acquaint members with sources of genealogical and related historical materials in and for Frederick County and Maryland.
  • To educate members and the general public of the genealogical data and research techniques, with programs, classes, workshops, and publications
  • To serve as a medium of exchange of genealogical information through its newsletters and meetings
  • To promote the collection, preservation, and utilization of manuscripts, documents and other material of genealogical and related historical value through reminders within the Society and promotional articles and speakers for the public
  • To aid local libraries in their maintenance and acquisition of genealogical materials through member volunteerism and the encouragement of charitable cash and collection donations

Meetings are announced on the Frederick News Post Community News about 1 week before the meeting date.

 

MEETINGS

Society regular monthly meetings: 2nd Saturday of each month, except July & August, January & February  at 1 P.M.. Guests and the public are always welcome to come (for free), refreshments are served. 

All meetings are held at Homewood at Crumland Farms/Lodge at Willow Pond which is down past the main bulding and you take the next  right, you then go all the way back and the building is on the left.  They are located on 500 Pearson Circle, Frederick, Maryland. 

 

DIRECTIONS: The first exit after Beckley’s motel left off Route 15, approximately 2 miles north of Frederick. Due to road construction, you will now have to go farther north on 15 before you can turn around and head south to get to the Beckley's motel exit.
