Frederick County Genealogical Society (FRECOGS):

Frederick County was formed from Prince George's County in 1748, Frederick County originally included all of what are now Washington, Allegany, Garrett and Montgomery Counties, as well as part of Carroll County. Today Frederick County is the largest county in land mass in Maryland and is known as the "Mother County of Western Maryland".

FRECOGS was established in 1977, as an informal group of less than a dozen people from the area who were interested in sharing their knowledge about old Frederick County families and encouraging family research for all current residents.

FRECOGS started out as a way to research the families of Frederick County, Maryland. It has now grown into a society to both continue to research the families of Frederick County, MD and to help people learn about what is out there to help them with their research no matter where they are searching. FRECOGS has a meeting on the second Saturday of each month (March-June and September-December). At each meeting the president gives a short talk on what is happening with the society, what is happening around the area or online, and we share tips or tricks on what we have learn. Then we have a speaker from a multiple of topics from local history, family history, things that are specific to the area and genealogical tricks of the trade.

We are a group that meets on a regular bases at Homewood Farms, we do not have a building of our own. Right now we do not have any professional reserchers but we can offer advice as to where or how to find information in the Frederick County area.
